 In Sanskrit the word "Surya" means the sun and here "mudra" means the touch of a hand. Therefore, Surya mudra is basically a finger arrangement (action) that represents the power of our body to benefit from sunlight.


Solar power is also represented by the body's Fire element. The Sanskrit word for fire is 'Agni', so Surya mudra is also known as Agni mudra.


To create a great balance between the 5 elements of the body, Surya Mudra eliminates the earth element and increases the fire element. therefore, Surya Mudra is also known as Agni vardhak (fire increaser) mudra.



How Surya Mudra Works?


The thumb represents the element of fire and the ring finger represents the element of the earth.


If you hold the ring finger and thumb in the Surya mudra system, then the fire element (thumb) of the body dominates over the earth object (finger ring).
